Liquid Droplets Shape How Cells Respond to Change

New research from the University of California, San Diego reveals that cells regulate cAMP/PKA signaling by forming liquid droplets, which segregate excess PKA catalytic subunits to prevent harmful effects. In some cancers, this process may be disrupted, leading to hyperactive signaling and tumor formation. Healthy cells respond to environmental changes by precisely relaying commands to specific biomolecules in appropriate domains, maintaining health. However, miscommunication or mistargeting can result in diseases like diabetes or cancer.
