In the past five years, new approaches have been developed in the field of nutritional immunology, deepening our understanding of the relationship between diet and the immune system. Researchers are analyzing the short-term effects of specific food groups and dietary components on the immune system and exploring their molecular mechanisms. This has provided scientific evidence for the effects of intermittent fasting, plant-based diets, and mushroom tea on the immune system, which is expected to form an important foundation for the development of personalized nutrition therapies in the future.
These research findings can be applied to address various health issues. For example, studies showing that chitin-rich diets may help treat obesity could lead to the development of new dietary approaches or drugs. Additionally, the discovery that intermittent fasting may alleviate symptoms of autoimmune diseases could be applied to developing new treatments for conditions like multiple sclerosis. Research on the effects of ketogenic and vegan diets on the immune system could be used to develop personalized diets for patients with autoimmune diseases such as lupus or psoriasis. Furthermore, findings that high-fiber diets may enhance the effectiveness of cancer immunotherapy could potentially be utilized as adjuvant therapy in cancer treatment. These studies suggest that within the next decade, scientifically-based dietary advice applicable in various clinical settings may become possible.
